The Danube Cycle Path

The most famous long-distance cycle route in Europe runs from Donaueschingen through the Passau Land region further on through Vienna to Budapest.

Along the second largest river in Europe, you can discover a variety of cultural monuments and enjoy famous Bavarian-Austrian hospitality. From the ruins of Hilgartsbert castle across the Schweiklberg Benedictine Abbey, the City of Three Rivers, Passau and the Donauleiten nature reserve all the way to the unique Schlögen Bend in Austria – on this route, there is something to suit everyone’s taste!

In the truest sense of the phrase, the Danube Cycle Path has “reached for the stars” and undertaken to participate in the strict certification scheme of the ADFC German Cycling Club, the renowned German cycling organisation. The Danube Cycle Path received a very good 4-star evaluation according to the strict ADFC inspection procedures.

Around 50 cyclist-friendly businesses between Passau and Vienna were qualified by the ADFC German Cycling Club as being “Bed & Bike” businesses whose doors are open to cyclists on the Danube Cycle Path at all times. In addition to secure bicycle parking areas that are partially roofed, the businesses make available “first-aid” tools for bicycles, drying rooms for wet clothing, etc. and e-charging stations where e-bike batteries can be charged overnight.

Our tip: Combine your tour with a journey by the Danube Ferry or travel back to Vienna or Passau by ship or train.
