Upper Austria has something surprising about itself in general. Who would expect to find so close together all the types of landscapes that characterise Austria? Upper Austria is also the land of cultural pioneering spirit. It is where people are deeply rooted in their traditions but nevertheless always have their eyes geared towards the future. No less than Anton Brucker moved out of Upper Austria to revolutionise the world of music, striking a completely new set of tones. The Ars Electronica Festival in Linz grew from its small beginnings to the most renowned festival for the field of media art worldwide. At the same time, traditional craftsmanship here is caused to uncompromisingly flourish anew in a consistent manner. Only the Goiser School and the woad dyeing of the Mühlviertel inhabitants are named here as being representative, but there are many others. It is closely related with the history of the respective region and still in lines with the trends of the 21st century.

Upper Austria invites you to discover and experience its many sides. Depending on which facet of the leisure-time spirit is dominant at the moment, Upper Austria offers a suitable playing field.
