One of the most beautiful Churches of Our Lady is located in the former Aldersbach abbey.
In 1120, the Abby was founded by Bishop Otto von Bamberg and soon after taken over by Cistercians causing it to flourish. The famous Asam brothers were commissioned in the 18th century to design the interior of the church.
For the first time in the Bavarian Region, Cosmas Damian Asam painted a fresco here in the abbey that spanned over the course of the nave’s bays. Stucco work from Egid Quirin Asam in the style of Early Rococo show the aftermath of the Italian Baroque period. The former monastery church is among the most significant works of construction of the fading Baroque period in the region of South Germany.
The Adersbach brewery is very closely related with the abbey and looks onto a history dating back over 700 years. With a museum, tavern and monastery shop, the brewery is an experience for the heart and soul.
The perfect connection between tradition and modernism truly symbolises the Bavarian way of living in the best possible manner. Therefore, it is no surprise that Aldersbach is going to showcase the Bavarian state exhibition “Bier in Bayern” (Beer in Bavaria) in 2016.
The monastery, church and brewery can be visited. Further information can be found at www.aldersbacher.de.
